Roll and Scroll RPG Mobile Tool
A Customizable D&D App
A story: A million years ago, before I knew that UI/UX was a career, I was an impressionable band geek that played Dungeons and Dragons every Monday night.
Confession: I never had a clue was I was doing. My boyfriend was the DM and I liked the glittery dice so I played. Yes, I had fun, and to this day we joke about it, but I really had no idea what I was doing. I apologize to the other players.
Over the years after collge we would play every once in awhile. But, as anyone who has ever played knows- creating a character is a LONG process- and we would spend hours creating a character and only ever find like twice to play.
Fast forward to the pandemic. My husband and I live in Florida. The other couple we played with lived in California. We tried to play via Zoom. It was mildly successful. At the time I joked that we needed an online way to keep track of characters and keep everything organized.
Now, a year or two later my husband introduced me to Critical Role. The first thing I noticed about this group of players is that they all have a tablet in front of them with their characters ready to go. The lightbulb came on.
In my spare time I started to design this app. It is meant to be a practice piece, but it grows and really deserves it's own place in the portfolio
I will note- I did not do formal research on this. I did not try to find the app they Critical Role people use (though after I get done I really want to see what they are using). I wanted to use my imagination and the input of friends who play to build something that worked. I want to throw everything into it that my little nerd heart desires. This project is a work in progress. I will add to it every time I work.
So....come along on my personal adventure to build a D&D app that would work across a continent, at home, or in a gaming store.

Clicking on the checkbox at the top of the page will allow a special creation page for spell casters.

Prototypes
This is a work in progress
Mockups
Login Page
The title is a work in progress. Sometimes I have to do a mock up or two in order to get my creativity going again!

DM Chat
This is one of my favorite features. It always annoys me when the DM tell someone something that the rest of the players shouldn't know and then have to pretend they don't. DMs can request chats, tell secrets, and answer questions wit one or more players.
Death Save Overlay
When a character hits zero HP, this overlay will automatically come up.
DM Campaign Page
DM Campaign Dashboard. Notes can be added to, or preloaded (or both). All party members listed with quick facts that can be opened to larger character sheets. DMs can also give inspiration, look for loot, and access the area map from this page.
Map Expansion
Accessed from the campaign page. DM can track and expain where characters are going. DM can share the map without pins if they like.
Combat room prototype
A view of the combat page. The DM can share the map on the left with the party. They can also drag and drop character icons. The combat order can also be drag and dropped based on the initiative rolled. DMs can look up info about each party member or monster in the order menu.
DMs can place notes in advance or add as they go.
